Lots have moved past Waldo Canyon Fire by now. Hundreds more have not. It's their reality, it's what they think about when they randomly grab for an item they've reached for a thousand times before, just to remember it's gone forever. Do we stay and rebuild? Do we leave it all behind and start over somewhere else? I don't even know how I'd begin to make some of these decisions and thank God, I do not have to. Our neighborhood was spared by the heroes in the front lines. Clearly, lots of others around us weren't so fortunate.
Pikes Peak Community Fund helps disburse funds where it's needed most locally. When we made our $1600 donation in August, we requested it go to Waldo Canyon Firefighters Fund, as that's where our hearts led. We'd love to make another donation with at least the same amount but because the "hype" and community events have calmed, so had people's thoughts about it.
For those of us relatively unaffected, we can still help. Whether it's by supporting ColoradoStrong or another group, it does make a difference.
